My parents Jim and Mary MacDonald and their six sons Edward,James,Stephen,William,John and Gordon sailed as passengers on the TSS Cameroonian leaving Glasgow on 13 Nov 51 and arrived in Fremantle six weeks later. The cabin steward was my mother’s Cousin James (Jim) McNair and so we were very well looked after. unfortunately we had a horrendous trip through the Bay of Biscayne and me and two of my brothers spent a couple of weeks very seasick.I too remember the wee boys in the Suez Canal trying to sell camera lighters and the crippled beggars in Colombo ( now) Ceylon. I was 14 years of age and when we arrived on a wet day in Fremantle I was bemused at seeing the Australian kid in raincoats and hats but bare feet.I said to my parents that we had seen the Aussie white natives and tried to sell the Dandy and Beano comics. My brother Bill and I are the only ones still living I am 85 and Bill is 81 I am still A proud Scotsman and will be as long as I breathe.
